Lesson Plan

The Influence of Humans on Animal Species

Subject Biology, Geography | Middle School
Duration 65 minutes
Tools Corinth 2.0, projector, worksheet
Keywords Habitat, invasive species, extinction

1. Engage – Brainstorming

Ask students: “What comes to your mind when we say ‘human impact on animals’?” Note their answers on the board and encourage open discussion. This sets the stage for personal connection with the topic.

2. Explore – Interactive 3D Model

Use the Corinth 2.0 app to explore endangered animals. Show a 3D model of the Aldabra giant tortoise, which is affected by habitat loss, hunting, and invasive species.

Pokud se model nenačítá, otevřete jej v novém okně.

3. Explain – Human Activities & Examples

  • Discuss how habitat loss, hunting, fishing, and invasive species disrupt ecosystems.
  • Use Corinth to search for and present other endangered animals (e.g. elephant, rhino, jellyfish, mackerel).
  • Explain the concept of invasive species and show examples like python in Florida or rabbits in Australia.

4. Elaborate – Group Research

Divide students into groups. Each group explores one human activity (e.g. hunting, invasive species, deforestation) and creates a short visual explanation using Corinth Studio or a worksheet. Encourage them to include possible solutions.

5. Evaluate – Reflection & Presentation

  • Each group presents their findings in class (verbal or visual).
  • Individually, students reflect: “Which example surprised me the most and why?”
  • Optional: Exit ticket with 2 key takeaways + 1 question they still have.
